The Lake Michigan Sector of the United States Coast Guard were searching for a kite surfer who went missing Saturday evening in Lake Michigan near Evanston.
The surfer, wearing a black wetsuit on a grey and black striped kite, was seen by a firefighter going underwater but not resurfacing about 5:30 p.m., according to a statement from the Lake Michigan Sector of the Coast Guard.
A small boat from a station in Kenosha and an MH-60 helicopter from an air station in Traverse City were sent to help search the area, according to the statement.

A man, 63, was driving an SUV north on Central Avenue about 3:45 p.m. when he attempted to turn left onto Eastwood in front of a squad car going south on the same street, causing the officers to strike the passenger side of the SUV, police said.
The man was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in fair condition with a head injury, officials said.
The officers were taken to an area hospital in fair condition, police said.
The man was given a citation for failure to yield and expired registration.

A man was shot and critically wounded following an altercation Saturday night in River North on the Near North Side.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, confronted the gunman regarding a previous incident in the 100 block of West Hubbard Street about 10 p.m. when he was shot multiple times in the body, Chicago police said.
He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was in critical condition, police said.
Detectives were still investigating the previous incident that caused the confrontation.
Two men were killed and two others were wounded in a drive-by shooting Saturday night in West Englewood on the South Side.
The group was standing on the sidewalk about 7:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of West Garfield Boulevard when someone inside a gray vehicle opened fire at them, Chicago police said.
A 42-year-old man shot multiple times was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Another man, 48, also suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died.
A third man, 24, was struck in the back and arm and was taken in serious condition to University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. A male, whose age wasn’t immediately known, also suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Three people were wounded in a drive-by shooting Saturday afternoon in the Near West Side.
The group was on the sidewalk about 3:35 p.m. in the 1400 block of West Wilcox Street when a vehicle drove by and someone from inside fired shots, Chicago police said.
A 30-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and was taken in good condition to West Suburban Hospital, police said. Another man, 28, was struck in the shoulder and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
A third man, 43, was struck in the arm and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.
