The heatwave was tied with the summer of 1981 as the earliest to hit the country during the meteorological summer, El Pais reported. Temperatures in some areas reached above 40°C (104°F ). By June 19, temperatures had dropped considerably, El Pais reported. Weather warnings for high temperatures remained in place for some regions, including Aragon and the Balearic Islands.
