Sidhu Moosewala’s killing: Delhi court refuses to pass orders on jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s plea for increased security

Apprehending a fake encounter, jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi—accused in the Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala murder case—on Monday moved a Delhi court seeking increased security.
Bishnoi is likely to move the Delhi High Court after NIA Court Special Judge Praveen Singh refused to pass any directions on his plea at this juncture, saying there was no ground for the accused to file such an application before the court.
Bishnoi ndash; who is facing a trial under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act in the national capital—sought a direction to Tihar Jail authorities not to give his custody to the Punjab Police but the court said there was no production warrant before it.
"Our petition is readyhellip;We file it in the Delhi High Court tomorrow," Bishnoi's counsel Vishal Chopra told The Tribune.
The move came after the Delhi Police questioned Bishnoi in connection with the murder.
Moosewala was shot dead on Sunday by unidentified assailants in Punjab's Mansa district, a day after the state government curtailed his security cover. Punjab Police on Sunday said the killing of popular singer Sidhu Moosewala seemed to be the result of an inter-gang rivalry and that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was involved in it.
The application had sought a direction to Tihar jail authorities for giving prior information to the court about any production warrant of Punjab or any other state police against Bishnoi and not to give his custody to any other state police. The accused was having apprehension of a fake encounter by the Punjab police due to political rivalry, it added.
The application said any state police could investigate any case pending against him at the Tihar jail without obtaining his physical custody or may produce him to any other court through video conferencing.
