PM Modi on Monday congratulated Sharif on his election as Pakistan PM. He also said India wanted peace and stability in the region so that "we can focus on our development challenges and ensure the well-being and prosperity of our people". As was the case with his inaugural speech on Monday, Sharif again underlined that the peaceful settlement of outstanding disputes, including Jamp;K, was a prerequisite. He had alleged the people in the Valley were "bleeding" and Pakistan would provide them "diplomatic and moral support", besides raising the matter at every international forum. China also congratulated Sharif and said besides ramping up ties by "resolutely" backing each other, it looked forward to building a "high quality" $60 bn China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. —
