Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, along with his Vietnamese counterpart Vuong Dinh, inaugurated four new airline routes between India and the South Eastern country on Wednesday.

On a three-day visit to Vietnam, the Speaker also reinstated two flights between the countries that were suspended in wake of the Covid.

Before the outbreak of the pandemic, Vietnamese airline VietJet was operating flights from Hanoi and

New Delhi. Vietjet in a statement said it will now operate six flights between India and Vietnam in a phased manner. It added that the flights on the Delhi-Hanoi and Delhi-Ho Chi Minh City routes will resume operations on April 29 and April 30, respectively.

The four new routes will operate on Hanoi-Mumbai, Ho Chi Minh City-Mumbai and Phu Quoc-New Delhi and Phu Quoc-Mumbai routes. Phu Quoc is resort island in the southern part of Vietnam.

The flights connecting Mumbai with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will start operations from June 3 and June 4, respectively, and those linking Phu Quoc with Mumbai and New Delhi will be available from the second week of September, the airline said.

Birla said the increased connectivity between Vietnam and India will generate business and tourism opportunities. In the tech front, a memorandum of understanding for a joint venture between Galaxy Digital Holdings, Sovico Group of Vietnam and Tech Mahindra Limited of India was also inked in the presence of Birla and Hue.
