Even the “usually impotent left-leaning media” has reacted in anger following the recently uncovered revelations involving “climate warrior” Zali Steggall, says Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton. Independent MP Zali Steggall has come under fire for failing to disclose a $100,000 political donation from a prominent coal investor. A review into public disclosures from Ms Steggall’s campaign – Warringah Independent Ltd – uncovered the $100,000 cheque from the family trust of businessman John Kinghorn. The cheque was allegedly split into eight separate payments of $12,500, which fell below the Australian Electoral Commission’s $13,800 threshold for donations to be publicly disclosed. Mr Houghton said the issue is “so bad that the usually impotent left-leaning media reacted with anger”. “Instead of just copping the ‘mistake’ on her chin, she got combative and hit out at the journalists who broke the story,” Mr Houghton said. “Have fun at the upcoming election Zali; now that you've played the fake news media card, you might not get the free run they gave you against Tony Abbott.”
