‘Unelectable for years to come’: Liberal Party should not drop net zero policy

NSW Young Liberals President Deyi Wu says if the Liberal Party drops their net zero policy they will be “unelectable for many years to come”. “I don’t think we should be abandoning anything, I think we should be offering a practical alternative for what we can actually do, to reduce emissions, to decarbonise,” Ms Wu said. Ms Wu said the issue of climate change had been “bastardised” and shouldn’t be a left versus right issue. “I personally don’t think conserving the environment and reducing emissions is a left issue, it is fundamentally a conservative principle to ensure future generations are left in a better state than you were,” she said. Ms Wu also criticised the Coalition’s approach to the last federal election, telling Sky News Australia the campaign lacked substance and was mired by politicking. “I think there was too much politicking, and not enough substance on policy issues that genuinely improve people’s lives,” she said. “As much as politicians want to believe voters are disengaged, they still see through the slogans and the scaremongering." Ms Wu referenced the Liberal Party’s text message about an asylum seeker boat being intercepted, which she said was “cheap” and “disingenuous”.
