Sydney’s Taronga Zoo has named its two four-month-old red panda cubs Zeya and Daiya, the zoo announced in a press release on April 7. The two female cubs were born on December 8 and their names were chosen to reflect their range of habitat in the wild. Zeya means “success” in Burmese, and Daiya means “black jade” in Chinese. The footage shows the cubs playing in their enclosure, learning to climb trees and following their mother, Amala. Keepers say both cubs already have quite distinct personalities. Zeya is physically slightly bigger and stronger than Daiyu and loves to play with sticks, the zoo said, whereas Daiyu is more confident at climbing and is more vocal. The cubs are quite easy to identify as Zeya is fluffier and is lighter in color and Daiyu has darker fur and a thinner face. The adorable duo, who now weigh 1.3-1.5 kilos, are starting to transition from their mother’s milk and are consuming a “panda porridge”. The zoo has set up a Red Panda Cub Cam where people can watch the cubs in action. Credit: Taronga Zoo via Storyful
