The Russian Ministry of Defense released footage on February 16 that they said showed military units leaving Crimea and returning to base after taking part in tactical exercises at training grounds on the peninsula. On February 15, a spokesman said that some units had begun returning to their garrisons after carrying out combat training measures near the Ukrainian border. The ministry said the video shows units of the Southern Military District moving across the Crimean Bridge, on trains loaded with “armored vehicles on caterpillar tracks: tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and self-propelled artillery mounts.” US President Joe Biden said that an invasion on Ukraine remained “distinctly possible” despite Russian claims some military units had begun withdrawing. The latest satellite imagery, released February 14, showed increased Russian military activity in Belarus, Crimea and various locations across western Russia near the Ukrainian border in the 48 hours prior. NATO said on February 15 it had yet to see signs of de-escalation on the ground. Credit: Russian Defense Ministry via Storyful
