A spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry said on February 15 that some military units had begun returning to their garrisons after carrying out combat training measures near the Ukrainian border. “The subunits of the Southern and Western Military Districts, having completed their tasks, have already begun loading onto rail and road transport and today they will begin moving to their military garrisons. Individual units will march on their own as part of military columns,” spokesman Maj Gen Igor Konashenkov said. Konashenkov said some military exercises would continue between Belarus and Russia as part of their Union Resolve 2022 joint military actions. New satellite imagery, released February 14, showed increased Russian military activity in Belarus, Crimea and various locations across western Russia near the Ukrainian border in the 48 hours prior. US officials estimated that Russia had massed more than 130,000 troops near Ukraine’s borders. United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced on Monday that State Department was in the process of “temporarily relocating” the American embassy in Kyiv to the western city of Lviv “due to the dramatic acceleration in the buildup of Russian forces.” Credit: Russian Defense Ministry via Storyful
