It is a “disgrace in itself” the ABC’s Laura Tingle is the chair of the National Press Club, says The Media Show host Jack Houghton. “That is a very important position which requires the steady hands of a journalist beyond reproach - not someone who labels our Prime Minister as being smug or accusing him of ideological bastardry,” Mr Houghton said. Mr Houghton assessed Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s recent showing at the National Press Club and some of the questioning he received from Ms Tingle and the ABC's Political Editor Andrew Probyn. In a question directed at Mr Morrison, Ms Tingle asked: “Do you want to take this opportunity to actually say sorry for the mistakes you’ve made as prime minister?” Mr Houghton said Ms Tingle wasn’t the only person to “colour” their question “in an oddly personal and negative light” – with the ABC’s Andrew Probyn having last week given Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese a “free run”. “This election campaign is going to be very interesting - there is a narrative being constructed by those who want to see the Coalition turfed,” Mr Houghton said.
