High school students in St Paul, Minnesota, walked out of class on Tuesday, February 8, to protest the police killing of Amir Locke. Footage filmed by Ann Treacy for the Minnesota Women’s March shows a large crowd of students outside Central High School in St Paul. The crowd can be heard shouting “we are the students, the mighty, mighty students.” Police officers fatally shot Locke while carrying out no-knock search warrant at an apartment early on the morning of February 2, bodycam footage released by the City of Minneapolis shows. Minneapolis Police Department said a SWAT team gained entry to an apartment on Marquette Avenue South, and after around nine seconds encountered a man “with a handgun pointed in the direction of the officers." The public information report details that an officer then “fired his duty weapon,” striking 22-year-old Amir Locke. Police said officers provided emergency aid before Locke was brought to hospital, where he later died from his injuries. CBS Minnesota reported that the students were demanding “justice for Locke and for an end to no-knock warrants in Minnesota”. Several other high schools in the Twin Cities areas joined the protest.
