Haneen Zreika is being treated with the ‘respect not afforded to Israel Folau’

Muslim GWS Giants player Haneen Zreika is being treated with the respect and tolerance that was not afforded to former Wallaby great Israel Folau, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny. Ms Zreika will not play in tonight’s women’s AFL match because she does not feel comfortable wearing the special Pride round guernsey due to her religious faith. Mr Kenny said the incident shows sporting bodies should allow athletes to make their own choices. “Compare this to another case, instead of footy it was rugby, instead of a woman it was a man, and instead of the Muslim faith the Christian faith was in play,” Mr Kenny said. “Yep, I wanna draw the contrast with Israel Folau. His views ended his brilliant career. He was treated with intolerance and intransigence. “Haneen Zreika won't get the same treatment. She is being treated the way Folau should have been. “Just leave people to their views, as long as they don't discriminate against others, as long as they treat people well, tolerate their faith and their views.”
