A man drove his truck into a golf course pond while attempting to flee sheriff’s deputies on March 3, helicopter footage shows. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said the driver, named as William Ballard, 42, was seen driving without headlights on the wrong side of the road on Harrison Ranch Blvd at around 1 am on March 3. He fled when deputies attempted a traffic stop. The sheriff’s office said an aviation unit followed the truck as it “ran through a fence at the Buffalo Creek Golf Course, then drove through the course and into a shallow pond.” Ballard said he was fleeing because he thought he had a warrant for his arrest, the sheriff’s office said. “He did not have an active warrant, but he was driving with a suspended license, and now faces more charges including Fleeing to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer at High Speed, a felony,” they said. Local media reported Ballard appeared in court charged with driving with a suspended license, possession of cannabis, fleeing to elude law enforcement at a high speed, and criminal mischief.
