Dutton: Albanese’s ‘break of faith’ with Australian people over wage increase

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has accused Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of breaking his election promise to support a wage increase of 5.1 per cent – as the new Liberal leader claims his party "will be much better" for working families. "As we've seen quite remarkably, just in the first week of this government, the break of faith with the working people of Australia," Mr Dutton said during a media conference on Monday. "Anthony Albanese, he gave absolute clarity during the campaign that he would support a 5.1 per cent increase, he would write to the Fair Work Commission – and he broke that promise. "I think he should be called out for it because I think it's a monumental breach of trust with those workers who heard him say that he would support them in a 5.1 per cent wage increase, and he hasn't. "So I believe that the Liberal Party in its current form and certainly under my leadership will be much better for working families, for workers right across the country – and I'm going to make sure that people understand that."
