Drone footage filmed in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco on May 29 showed the extent of flood damage in Goiana, with lines of homes and roads underwater. Drone camera operator Jefferson Pauliino captured video showing small boats being used to move between the damaged properties. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro inspected the Pernambuco cities of Recife and Jaboatao dos Guararapes on Monday, May 30, from aboard a helicopter after flooding and landslides killed dozens of people. Following the flight, Bolsonaro held a press conference in Recife in which he said more than 400 military personnel were being deployed to assist Civil Defense and local security agencies, and that funds earmarked for emergencies and natural disasters had been made available to at least 14 cities affected by the rains, according to a press release from the Brazilian government. On Tuesday, provincial news outlet Diario de Pernambuco reported that at least 106 people were confirmed to have died in landslides and flooding between May 25 and 31. At least 3,900 were rendered homeless, according to the Brazilian government. Credit: Jefferson Pauliino via Storyful
