Young football fans being cared for at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Ohio were rallying behind the Cincinnati Bengals ahead of their Super Bowl showdown with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, February 13. Video shared by Cincinnati Children’s shows patients and hospital staff leading chants of “Who Dey!”, the team’s iconic cheer. According to USA Today, fans say the phrase is rooted in the locally brewed Hudepohl beer, which locals would often refer to as “Hudey.” Bengals fans now use the phrase to mean “who are they?”, and extend it into a longer chant: “Who dey, who dey, who dey think gonna beat them Bengals? Nobody!” Cincinnati Children’s shared the video on Twitter, writing: “We hope the Bengals can hear our #WhoDey all the way in LA!” A day earlier, a 12-year-old patient at the hospital named Colton found out he and his family would be attending the Super Bowl thanks to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay. Several days earlier, Irsay tweeted that he would give away four tickets to the game to those who could prove they were “hard core” Bengals fans. Credit: Cincinnati Children’s via Storyful
