The charred remains of military vehicles and abandoned munitions were shown strewn across streets and fields in Shestovytsia, about nine miles south of Chernihiv, Ukraine, in footage published by the country’s public-service broadcaster on April 20. On Tuesday, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said that its staff had gathered shells, mortars, grenades, and various ammunition, cleaning parts of the town of potential hazards and warning locals to avoid the woods and areas off sidewalks. Video released by the agency showed an array of war material littering the ground. In addition to abandoned or spent munitions, Russia has left behind banned antipersonnel mines in some parts of the country, according to Human Rights Watch. This footage, posted by Suspilne on Wednesday, shows extensive destruction in the village. Suspilne reported that Russian forces remained in the area for over a month, but suffered regular attacks from the Ukrainian military before eventually retreating as part of a larger Russian withdrawal.
