A deadly wildfire burning in New Mexico had grown to more than 5,700 acres by Thursday, April 14, officials said. Video posted to Facebook by the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management shows flames from the McBride fire in Ruidoso, the department said. The department said it had sent “20 pieces of wildland fire equipment, including engines, water tenders, and ambulances,” as well as more than 110 personnel to the Hermits Peak, Big Hole, and McBride fires burning around New Mexico. “We always try to help out other states when we can without depleting our own state’s needs, especially as we move closer to our time of high fire activity. And it goes both ways. We will get help from out-of-state resources as soon as the need arises,” the department said on Facebook. According to fire officials, the McBride fire was approximately 5,736 acres as of Thursday. So far the fire had killed at least two people and destroyed at least 207 structures, officials said.
