NCSOFT ESG Playbook 2021 (Courtesy of NCSOFT) NCSOFT Corp., South Korea’s major game developer, has published its second annual sustainability report with the concept of a playbook map. The report, NCSOFT ESG Playbook 2021, introduces the gaming company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) activities as game tactics. The 80-page report is available on the firm’s official website in an interactive digital format.In the report, NCSOFT defined the core values of its ESG management as “The Right Play,” “Digital Responsibility” and “Qualitative Leap of the Society” and explained its key achievements.The Right Play section elaborates on the company’s activities to promote diversity and inclusion, thereby preventing hate and discrimination against nationality, gender and race. It also introduces a new initiative of “Shift Left,” NCSOFT’s commitment to its customers with more frequent communications earlier in the game development process.In Digital Responsibility section, NCSOFT presents its efforts to build industry-leading information security and data privacy systems in accordance with global standards. The company has also set guidelines for creating a bias-free human-centered artificial intelligence, which continues to learn from human input and collaboration, and implemented related research and development activities.The Qualitative Leap of the Society is categorized into three sections: environment-friendly management, future generation and community. NCSOFT has formed a dedicated environmental organization and stipulated its own policies for an eco-friendly management system. The company runs NC Cultural Foundation, which supports the future generation to unlock their creativity and pursue unbiased growth.“We will take action to live by the core value. NCSOFT will establish corporate culture to expand our communications from the early phase of game development across the entire services and to fully reflect customer feedback,” said Yoon Song-yee, chairperson of the NCSOFT ESG Steering Committee. NCSOFT became the first gaming developer that launched an ESG management committee last year. It is the only Korean listed-gaming developer that earned grade A in ESG ratings from Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS) and MSCI in 2021.In March, the gaming developer acquired “low risk” with scoring 12.2 in ESG rating from ESG rating company Sustainanalytics.
