Office buildings near the center of Kharkiv were found damaged on Friday, March 18, as attacks continued in Ukraine’s second-largest city. Footage taken by Maria Avdeeva shows destruction at what she says used to be a workplace. Avdeeva said that she had taken shelter in the building when she heard the sound of shelling. “This is Kharkiv today,” Avdeeva says in the video, as she climbed a stairwell of the building. Office supplies, including folders and computer monitors, are visible in the footage. “People left everything here…because they were not able to take anything with them,” Avdeeva says. Toward the end of the video, as she filmed a Ukrainian flag on the front of the building, Avdeeva expressed confidence that people would soon return to Kharkiv and transform it back into a “beautiful city, full of people and full of youth.” On Friday, local authorities reported one person was killed and 11 were injured when shelling hit a university and nearby residential buildings in the city.
