A train was derailed in Japan’s Miyagi Prefecture as a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off of Japan’s northeast coast on March 16, NHK reported. The Tokyo-to-Sendai train derailed between “Fukushima and Shiroishizao stations,” the report said. According to NHK, the East Japan Railway said 16-17 cars derailed despite the emergency break being applied when the earthquake was detected. “None of the 75 passengers and three crew members aboard were injured […] They were trapped inside the train for about four hours after the derailment caused a power outage,” NHK reported. The earthquake caused the death of least one person while 161 were injured, Japanese authorities said. According to the United States Geological Survey, the 7.3-magnitude earthquake was preceded by a smaller 6.4-magnitude earthquake, also off the coast, about two minutes earlier. A tsunami advisory issued by Japan’s meteorological agency for northeastern parts of the country was lifted on Thursday morning, NHK reported. Credit: @44ysman via Storyful
