Truck drivers and their supporters blocked US-bound lanes of traffic at the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, Ontario, on February 7, as part of an ongoing protest against vaccine and COVID-related mandates. The protest, which settled into Ottawa on January 29, called for an end to COVID-19 vaccine mandates for truckers crossing the US-Canada border. The Ambassador Bridge connects the cities of Detroit and Windsor and is the busiest land crossing between the United States and Canada. In a tweet posted at 2:21 pm local time, Windsor Police said traffic from the bridge onto Huron Church Road in Windsor was “temporarily interrupted” and authorities were working to open the roadway. The Detroit News reported that by nightfall on February 7, the bridge from the US to Canada had been closed. Windsor Police said US-bound lanes had reopened as of approximately 6 am on Tuesday, but said congestion persisted. As of around noon police said “limited” US-bound traffic was being allowed through.
