SA Premier Steven Marshall should be “cruising” to re-election but many troubles, including failing to lead the pandemic when he placed his “nutty professor” in charge, have led to it going wrong, according to Sky News Australia host Chris Kenny. It comes as South Australians prepare to head to the ballot box on Saturday as Mr Marshall and SA Opposition leader Peter Malinauskas battle it out in the state election. “So, what's gone wrong? Firstly, disunity and factional shenanigans in the Liberal party,” Mr Kenny said. “Conservatives have been alienated, some have quit the party, the Liberal Moderates have run a winner takes all dynamic, and this, together with some members getting caught up in travel rorts controversies and the like has pushed the party into minority government. “And on the pandemic, the SA Premier failed to lead, he placed his nutty professor chief health officer and his police commissioner in charge, standing back and basking in their glory as they ‘kept south Australians safe’.” He said they all talked up the “fear and paranoia” when it came to the COVID-19 pandemic, making themselves look “great” for keeping people safe and left Mr Marshall “carrying the can” with many people “cranky” at the virus now circulating the state. “Apart from all this, Marshall is up against an exceptional Labor candidate."
