Four directives in response to the Russia-Ukraine situation were issued by President Tsai Ing-wen following a briefing by the National Security Council and related agencies, according to the Presidential Office Feb. 23. Taiwan condemns Russia’s infringement of Ukraine’s sovereignty and calls on all parties to resolve disputes peacefully and rationally, Tsai said. As an indispensable member of the international community, the country is willing to contribute to conflict-free solutions in the ongoing dispute, Tsai added. According to Tsai, the government will continue to preserve national security by strengthening military readiness regarding any developments in the Taiwan Strait. Related agencies will remain on top of the current situation in the country and throughout the Indo-Pacific, Tsai added. The country will also comprehensively shore up its response to cognitive warfare to bolster public morale, Tsai said, adding that it is essential for the government to ramp up efforts to identify and combat disinformation and thus safeguard domestic social stability. Tsai also instructed all government agencies to continue monitoring global trade while assessing and reinforcing contingency plans to ensure the stability of the supply of goods, commodity prices and financial markets in order to minimize potential effects of the situation. Other officials at the meeting included Premier Su Tseng-chang, Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu and National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo.
