Taiwan, Marshall Islands renew pact on agricultural technical cooperation
An agreement on agricultural technical cooperation between Taiwan and the Marshall Islands was renewed March 22, underscoring the two countries’ commitment to expanding exchanges between the diplomatic allies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. Witnessed by Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu and Marshall Islands President David Kabua, the pact was signed by Jeffrey S. C. Hsiao, ambassador of the ROC (Taiwan) to Marshall Islands, and Foreign and Trade Minister Casten Nemra. It promises collaboration on issues such as food security and a diverse supply of fruits and vegetables. According to the MOFA, the agreement will provide mutual benefits by promoting people-to-people exchanges and expanding agricultural cooperation to outlying islands of the Indo-Pacific ally. The signing ceremony was followed by a dinner banquet hosted by Wu at the historic Taipei Guest House, the MOFA said. Wu took the opportunity to thank Kabua for supporting Taiwan at numerous global events. As a rock-solid partner, the country will stand shoulder to shoulder with the Marshall Islands to jointly tackle issues such as climate change and regional challenges, he added.
