An easing of Taiwan entry requirements for Ukraine nationals made in the spirit of humanitarianism and international solidarity was announced March 11 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.   Ukraine relatives of ROC (Taiwan) nationals and citizens of the East European country holding Alien Registration Certificates residing in Taiwan are eligible to apply for a special entry permit, the MOFA said. This concession is made in light of ongoing hostilities and is for the purpose of visiting family in Taiwan, the ministry added.   Applications will be accepted at the country’s embassies and overseas offices, the MOFA said, adding that they must be supported by a valid Ukraine passport and proof of the applicant’s relationship to an ROC (Taiwan) national and Ukraine ARC holder residing in Taiwan.   The ministry said the easing is in addition to other purposes for entry to Taiwan permitted by the Central Epidemic Command Center. These include joining family, education, studying Mandarin, business visits, investment, fulfilling contractual obligations, employment, emergencies and on humanitarian grounds, and other cases given special approval by the CECC.   Taiwan’s government and people have been quick to stand with Ukraine following Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion. To date, over US$20 million has been donated to a special humanitarian assistance account established by the MOFA.   More than 2 million Ukraine nationals have fled the conflict for neighboring countries such as Poland and Slovakia, according to the latest estimates by the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. (DL-E)   Write to Taiwan Today at ttonline@mofa.gov.tw
