ALISO VIEJO — The Westmont men’s soccer team will enter today’s match against Bethesda on a four-game winning streak that has seen them outscore opponents 14-1.

That winning streak is in large part due to the play of freshman midfielder, Erik Guerrero.

On Monday, the Golden State Athletic Conference announced that following his three-goal week, Guerrero has been named the conference’s Player of the Week.

“There’s two things that have really struck me about Erik,” said Westmont Head Coach Dave Wolf. “The first is that he looks incredibly comfortable on the field. We weren’t sure where he was going to line up, but the middle of the field has been a good place for him.

“The second is the strides that he has made in terms of fitness. He’s not missed much training, if any, and now you’re seeing a player who is growing in confidence as well as ability. His fitness level is only going to enhance the gifts he already has.”

This past week, Guerrero scored three goals en route to helping the Warriors win their third and fourth matches in a row. On Sept. 14, Guerrero scored the second goal of a 3-0 win against The Master’s, and on Saturday, the Los Alamos native scored the first two goals of an eventual 4-0 win over Fresno Pacific.

Thanks to a pair of assists to go along with his trio of goals, Guerrero leads the Warriors with eight points. The freshman’s eight points is also tied for third atop the GSAC.

Guerrero and the Warriors go for their fifth consecutive win this afternoon, when they host the Bethesda Flames at 4 p.m.
