Here, as elsewhere, Şahin’s improvisations are filled with Schoenbergian inversions of Bird licks. The sublimated shapes of Parker’s lexicon percolate subtly throughout the piece, exploding to the surface at the end, when the rhythm and melodic contour (if not the actual notes) of his 1951 composition “Au Privave” appear in Şahin’s guitar line.
