‘We all have to step back’: Archbishop of Canterbury suggests Prince Andrew be forgiven

If Prince Andrew wants forgiveness he can start by explaining why he would give millions of dollars to Virginia Giuffre if he believes he did nothing wrong, says Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan. It comes as Britain's most senior religious leader Archbishop Justin Welby called on the public to "step back a bit" and insists the Duke of York is trying to "make amends". Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre settled out of court in February amid her civil sexual assault claim against the royal. In a carefully worded statement, which admitted no guilt, Prince Andrew’s lawyers said he would make a substantial donation to Ms Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights. "Is he seeking to make amends or is Prince Andrew seeking to repair his battered reputation and try and retain some semblance of relevance in public life," Mr Morgan said. "If forgiveness is accepting that somebody made a mistake, we need to know what mistake Prince Andrew believes he made. "All we've seen from Prince Andrew is 'I'm going to clear my name', followed by actually I'm writing a big fat cheque for this to go away – that's not acceptance or repentance."
