UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson “thought he had a little bit of a silver lining” when he hoped the police investigation may have halted the publication of the Sue Gray inquiry, according to Sky News UK contributor Ian Woods. “It appears in the last couple of hours that he doesn’t even have that because we now understand that the Sue Gray official report could be published within the next 24 hours,” he told Sky News Australia. Mr Woods said it was thought the report may “prejudice the policy inquiry” into the parties at Downing Street but it has been given publication clearance. He said the police thought they had “prima facie evidence” for the parties after expressing hesitance to investigate something which occurred 18 months ago for which the “maximum penalty is usually only £100”. “They’ve acted because one of the thresholds they set was whether or not the people who are allegedly involved in this knew the rules and knew they were breaking the rules,” Mr Woods said.
