A case of manipulation of one vote came to the fore in the counting results in panchayat polls in Umaria district.

During counting votes in village Bodali in Umaria district, allegations have been made of defeating a candidate for the Sarpanch by one vote due to power failure. The supporters, including the candidate and counting agent, have submitted a memorandum to the Collector and the District Election Officer, calling the process unfair.

The incident occurred in village panchayat Bodali, where voting for the Sarpanch took place on June 25. After voting, the counting of votes started late in the evening. Both the Candidates got 225 votes each, after which the candidates demanded recounting twice, but the results remained the same. When for the third time recounting started, there was a power failure.

The results were changed when the power supply was restored. Jitendra Singh's 225 votes remained the same, but Puran Singh's one vote was reduced to 224. It is said that Puran Singh and his agents objected to this. Singh and his agents objected to this.

For doing so, they were thrown out of the counting centre and later, along with his agents and supporters, Singh appeared before the District Election Officer and the Collector on Sunday and filed a complaint. Collector Sanjeev Srivastava has given instructions for the necessary investigation into this matter.
