A tempo overturned on the Western Express Highway early on Tuesday morning, leading to a massive traffic jam for several hours.

Officials with the Mumbai Traffic Police said that the tempo, which was carrying indusrial generators, lost control and turned on its side on the south bound lane of the WEH at around 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. The incident occurred on the Teachers Colony stretch of the highway in Bandra.

"We had to arrange for a crane that is specifically designed for the purpose of lifting such tempos. The crane was rushed to the spot and the tempo was lifted upright at around 10.00 a.m., after which it was driven away. The traffic backlog, which had accumulated over one-and-a-half hours, is slowly clearing," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Niitin Pawar, West Suburban, Mumbai Traffic Police.

No injuries were reported in the incident. The Mumbai Traffic Police, through their official handle, had also put out an advisory regarding the incident.
