In this year’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards, Esquire Tavern has been voted as the best bar in San Antonio, and rightfully so! The tavern has a proud history that dates back to 1933 when it first became a bar. Originally a dive bar, there was a pause in operation from 2008 to 2011 when it reopened with a renewed focus on craft cocktails and beers.
According to beverage director Stephen Mendez, Esquire Tavern was among the first to embrace the change towards cocktails with fresh ingredients. “We put effort into what goes on behind the bar as we got away from the juices in the guns and prioritized fresh ingredients along with a commitment to the community.”
Every day is a positive day at Esquire, as they continuously focus on hospitality. It’s about providing the customers what they want, even if it’s a more traditional drink like a Long Island Iced Tea instead of the craft cocktail options on the menu.
“I think our commitment to hospitality, really thinking about the product we carry, why we carry them and supporting Texas breweries is what makes us a rising star in the bar community,” Mendez states. With a variety of unique suppliers and high-quality products, it’s not surprising that every visit is a memorable one.
