Sanctions against Putin: Could they cripple the global economy? | To the point

Putin‘s war in Ukraine is having a devastating economic impact. Countries across Europe face spiralling prices and shrinking markets. United as rarely before, the West has fired off one salvo of economic sanctions after another in response to Vladimir Putin’s attack on Ukraine, sending the ruble plummeting and citizens rushing to withdraw their savings from banks. So far that’s prompted no let-up in the fighting. Now the US is upping the pressure, banning oil imports from Russia. Calls for Europe to follow suit grow louder, but countries like Germany fear that would harm citizens and industry. Yet that pain could pale compared to the looming food crisis caused by the shortage of wheat from Ukraine.
