As Russian strikes continue on Ukraine‘s cities and causalities mount, is Putin’s war in Ukraine now a stalemate? Day after day, the Ukrainian port of Mariupol has withstood Russia’s attacks –and it has refused to surrender. But the city is all but destroyed. Meanwhile, fighting has intensified around Kyiv –and the war continues to displace millions. There are food and water shortages, people are sleeping in basements or dying on the streets. What keeps Ukrainians going in such dire conditions? What are the chances of a lasting peace deal? Or will the country face years of stalemate? In an interview recorded on March 22nd, Conflict Zone host Tim Sebastian met Markiyan Lubkivsky, Advisor to the Ukrainian Defense Minister. “We will fight till the end,” he said. “The situation is really very dramatic.” Conflict Zone is Deutsche Welle's top political interview. Every week, our hosts Tim Sebastian and Sarah Kelly are face to face with global decision-makers, seeking straight answers to straight questions, putting the spotlight on controversial issues and calling the powerful to account.
