Global trade is rebounding is the good news. According to Germany's Kiel Institute for the World Economy volumes have now even surpassed levels last seen before the coronavirus pandemic pre-crisis levels. World trade rose 2.4% in January compared with the previous month which is higher than its pre-crisis level. Most of that increase is coming from Western countries like Germany and the US. At the same time, 11% of all goods shipped worldwide are currently stuck in traffic jams. Is a return of uninterrupted world trade even possible as long as the Chinese leadership keeps following its zero-Covid strategy which includes frequent factory and port closures? Vincent Stamer, economist at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, speaks to DW.
