‘They don’t run this state’: DeSantis blasts Disney over Florida bill response
Ron DeSantis has slammed Disney for its "fundamentally dishonest" response after the Florida Governor signed the controversial 'Parents Rights in Education' bill into law. Mr DeSantis signed the act into law on Monday. The act includes the requirement for school districts to "reinforce the fundamental right of parents to make decisions regarding the upbringing and control of their children in a specified manner." The Walt Disney Company has vowed to aid organisations to repeal the legislation – widely reported as the 'Don't Say Gay' bill'. In a statement released on Monday, the entertainment and media conglomerate condemned the act and said it was standing up for its LGBTQ+ members in Disney and across the country. Mr DeSantis accused the company of having "crossed the line" in its response. “This state is governed by the interests of the people of the state of Florida,” Mr DeSantis said at a media conference on Tuesday. “It is not based on the demands of California corporate executives – they do not run this state, they do not control this state.”
