Sky News Queensland Editor Peter Gleeson has spoken to Clive Palmer, saying the billionaire had “nearly died” from a “double dose” of pneumonia and the Delta strain of COVID-19. “He told me a team of specialists who treated former US President Donald Trump put him onto a United States trial which enabled him to use antiviral drugs that are not approved, not recommended in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration,” Mr Gleeson said. He said the US-based team used Zoom with Australian doctors to monitor Mr Palmer’s health. He also said the antiviral drugs used by Mr Palmer were the “controversial agents” ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, which are both not approved nor recommended by the TGA. Mr Palmer had an ambulance on standby in case the antivirals didn’t work, and he needed immediate medical attention. "The advice from the government is very clear, the best protection for COVID-19 is vaccination, and hospital treatment and vaccines are very effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalisation, and death."
